The Power of One

“End hunger!” “End homelessness!” “Feed the poor!” “No child hungry!” I don’t know about you, but whenever I see those words, two things come to mind:  first, I absolutely agree and stand behind all of them. Second, it’s a scary prospect! End all hunger? End all homelessness? Feed every person? Make sure no child goes hungry? Wow! That is a heavy burden. I’m just one person after all with my own things!

You know what? Of course there is no way one person can wipe out every problem for every person. However, there IS so much one person can do! Don’t believe me? Anytime you take the time to make someone feel important, special, or listened to, you have done a lot! Anytime you volunteer, whether it is at a school, church, or an organization, you are making a difference. Whenever you donate food or money or time or clothing, you are impacting someone in a life-changing way! Even just smiling and being nice to someone has the potential of changing their day and yours.

Instead of looking at the problems in the world as insurmountable, just remember – one step at a time, one person at a time.

Don’t ever underestimate the power of one – YOU!
